"Amusing and poignant, 'Trekkies' presents an endless parade of kooks who see 'Star Trek' as just below the Bible on the list of important artistic contributions to mankind. ... At times, the filmmakers veer into the easy, patronizing view that sees 'Star Trek' fans as maladapted weirdoes. But for the most part, director Roger Nygard boldly goes where no man has gone before and presents the show's aficionados as flesh-and-blood eccentrics. After a while, the procession of 'Star Trek' zealots gets a little annoying. But with its jazzy, hip-hop backing music and quick cuts, 'Trekkies' never seems tiresome."
