The Columbus Dispatch, Frank Gabrenya,
***,
"'Trekkies' is a surprisingly entertaining look at devotees whose mission is to oddly go where no fan has gone before. ...'Trekkies' is an affectionate celebration of the lengths to which fans will go to claim their own vicarious place in the Federation. ... Fortunately the movie doesn't bog down by quizzing psychologists about he roots of fan obsession, nor does it juggle its images to make the fans look any sillier than they are willing to look. The heated issue is whether these people are trekkies or trekkers is debated until the topic seems more irrelevant than ever. 'Trekkies' is fairly lightweight for a night out at the movies, but the laughs are many, as when a man admits that, yes, he might consider plastic surgery to have his ears Vulcanized, and his wife stares at him as if trying to recall a loophole in the marriage contract."
