Saint Paul Pioneer Press, Chris Hewitt,
"It's the greatest feeling in the world, and I do it 30 or 40 times a year.' Is the speaker: a) President Clinton, discussing his work with interns; b) Courtney Love, toting up how often she bathes; or c) James 'Scotty' Doohan, revealing what he loves about 'Star Trek' conventions? Doohan figures prominently in 'Trekkies,' which could be a smart-alecky skewering of 'Star Trek' fanatics but which turns out to be a loving, sympathetic appreciation of them. Oh, you'll laugh at some of the tunic wearers, but the movie, directed by Minnesota's Roger Nygard, doesn't. It recognizes that 'Star Trek' has been a good friend to lots of people who needed one. ... Heck, I had affection for these people, and if the enterprising dentist worked in my neck of the woods, I'd be happy to have him boldly drill where no Starfleet commander has drilled before."
