You will not meet more unique Trek fans than ourselves, Tara and Jason of Brenham, Texas. Ten years ago, a Star Trek role-playing club was founded in Oak Park, IL. Jason became an admiral in this group and when Tara joined in July 1990, she was assigned to one of Jason's ships. November 1990 while attending a Star Trek convention in Chicago, IL we met and it was love at first sight. When we got married in May 1992, we used the music from Star Trek to walk down the aisle. Our minister even blessed us by saying "watch over them as they boldly go where they have never gone before". We also proposed a toast to Gene and Majel Roddenberry.
Through StarFleet Command, the role-playing club I mentioned above, Tara ran security for the Dreamwerks convention company based out of Boca Raton, FL. Jason also served on the security team We have had the pleasure of dining with James Doohan, Walter Koenig and Mark Lenard and also served on the technical crew when Walter & Mark performed "The Boys of Autumn" (we still have the programs.)
When we do attend conventions, our daughters are also in attendance. Our eldest, who is now three, attended her first convention at the age of 1 month and had her photo taken with James Doohan. She has both an admiral's uniform and a DS9 uniform, can tell the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek and has her own collection of action figures. Our youngest will be attending her first convention in September, she'll be 8 months old, and will wear her big sister's admiral's uniform. Tara has uniforms from the original series, Next Gen and a classic movie uniform.
At most conventions, Jason can be found entering the costume contest wearing his Borg costume. He first debuted the costume in July 1992 and has won the Best of Show at every convention he has attended since. His proudest moment was when Mike Okuda was the judge of a costume contest and asked where he got some of the parts for it.
Being fans of Star Trek is a long tradition in our families, Jason's mother and grandmother are also fans. So, as you can see we are probably one of the most unique group of fans you will meet.
