Re: A Dutch klingon story

Hello everybody,
My name is Richard from the Netherlands and I'm A big Klingon fan.

My story happened on a freeway towards Glasgow two years ago, but it all started
about ten years ago, when I visited my first big convention.

Well, to call it a big convention would be a large word, because Star Trek isn't
really so big over here. But never the less it was a revelation that there were
so many star trek fans like me.. or so I thought... as it turned out the majority
were federation fans(or as we call them pyjama's :-) and me being in for the
klingon "thing" made me into somewhat of a minority

I didn't have a uniform back then nor did I have the knowledge to make one, but I had the
right mentality and my believes that there would be more fans like me.
My luck changed as I came into contact with a small but very active klingon fan group called
Tova'Daq (klingon for mind sharing) which turned out to be be a small group of enthusiast
that shared my idea's of friendship, loyalty and honour that I found so interesting about
the klingons in the first place.

There are not a lot of klingon fans here in the Netherlands but the once that are give there
heart and soul to there hobby and it didn't take me long to get involved within the fan based
community.

All in all I can say that we have evolved into a group of close friends that can enjoy there hobby
as a way escape the day to day strain.

Whenever there is something to do concerning star trek we are the once who are asked to
light up the party and we are mostly the centre of the attention (Há.. tlhIngan maH) which also
is very helpful for the different charity's we are connected with (nobody can refuse a klingon {:o)
and we regularly visit our friend abroad at conventions in England, Scotland and germany.

And it was on such a trip that my anecdote happened:

My friend Thorwald and me were driving a hotel taxi to a convention in Glasgow and we shared
the cab with two stewardesses and a pilot..
We were just minding our own business and talking Dutch for the duration of the trip when suddenly
one of the girls turned towards us and (out of the blue) asked " you guys are klingon fans right..?"
We were totally dumbstruck and asked "how did you know that..?"
she said "well, two foreign guy's on route to a hotel were there is a Star trek convention being held
this weekend, carrying two big suitcases each, talking strange (Dutch) and looking menacing... you just
simply had to be klingon...!!"

We never stopped laughing for the next half-hour and from that day on we knew that Star Trek would
never ever die..!!!

Greeting from the low country..
