Greetings from Rhona Scheibe!!
I am what my brother calls a Second Generation Trekkie. I was born in '68 and didn't know what Star Trek was until I was four, and I have loved it ever since.
I prefer the term "Trekkie" because that was what we were originally referred to as. I take no offense. People who preferred to be called "Trekkers", I feel are arrogant and ashamed of what they are.
I hope this documentary doesn't depict "Trekkies" as nerdy, goofy, all consumed people.
We are very intelligent people, for the most part I admit I have Star Trek bumper stickers on my car. Mr. Spock is doing the Vulcan salute on one of my back passenger windows, the Enterprise flies on the other. I have every Classic and Next Generation episode on laserdisc and I watch them all of the time. I own every Classic STNG book ever written and have read every one.
I have spent thousands of dollars over the years on props, games, dolls, collector plates, T-shirts, bumper stickers, and patches. Yes I own Trek uniforms, but I only wear them at Halloween parties I have so much Star Trek memorabilia that my fiancé says I need a mansion to display it all. I drag him to all of the conventions, and over the years he has become a convert.
I do not flash the Vulcan hand sign at everyone I meet. I don't quote Star trek constantly. I view it as a future I would like to be in where people tolerate other's differences, and everyone can be somebody, everyone has a place no matter who they are.
Star Trek does not dominate my life, but is a very big part of it.
I am proud to be a TREKKIE!!!!
Live Long and Prosper,
Rhona
