Gabriel --
Several members of USS Accord, our local chapter of STARFLEET, went to an opening-night showing of Trekkies tonight. It was certainly well done, and I enjoyed quite a bit of the film.
Not surprisingly, we were nearly the only people in the theater. (Two folks came in after the movie started. I handed them Accord flyers on the way out.) The responses I've gotten suggest that most people haven't been hearing about the movie until I've told them, so perhaps Paramount needs to work more on getting the word out! Certainly putting ads in Voyager and DS9 would be in order, and I would have suggested buying a slot in the Phantom Menace trailer package, expensive though that would have been. Phantom Menace is really getting all of the traffic this week, and I'm hoping Trekkies gets some exposure as a result... but it won't come automatically.
Advertising in fan publications would also have made a lot of sense. It may be too late now, but feel free to have your contacts (the director, or whoever) get in touch with me about possibilities. Among other things, I'm the interim editor for two issues of the STARFLEET Communiqué, the bimonthly newsletter that goes to STARFLEET's roughly 4,000 members; and the director of the STARFLEET News Service, a system based loosely on the Associated Press concept, which distributes news and feature articles to the editors and publishers of the dozens (hundreds?) of chapter and regional newsletters that are affiliated with STARFLEET.
And... since I have a rare opportunity to "talk back" to someone who's appeared in a documentary, I've got to ask how your club's cinematic project is coming along! The brief glimpses of the station visuals, and the nice custom uniforms, bode well, I thought.
