Hello,

Did you have a chance to see the film "TREKKIES", produced by Roger Nygard and Denise Crosby? What did you think of it? Do you think it depicted Star Trek fandom fairly? We feel that it fell short of showing non-fans at least a couple of things: first, it didn't seem to really explain WHY Trek fans are fans and it seemed quite clear to me and some of my friends that it didn't depict ALL KINDS of Trek fans.

Our film (if we're able to get the assistance and co-operation of enough fans around the world) will address those topics and those fans that were not included in the original "TREKKIES". This film is in the earliest of planning stages, but the thought for now is to interview as many fans as possible, both on-camera and via written survey, to learn: 1) Who they are in the "real world" 2) What does Trek mean to them? 3) Why do they go to conventions or dress in costumes or brave autograph lines or collect? 4) Why did they join a Trek fan club? 5) What did they expect to get out of it and have they gotten it?

IOW, we hope our film will take both a more in-depth look at Trek fandom as well as a more representative look. The kind of look that probably just wasn't possible for a film the producers hoped would appeal to a general audience. This film is intended to appeal to the fans themselves in terms of showing us who we are.

LLAP, Vince
